Improving mobility in the EU: a commitment for all

From September 16 to 22 under the motto ““Mobility for Everyone” (Mobility for all people) we celebrate European Mobility Week, which reminds us of Europe's commitment to promoting accessible, affordable, safe, and more sustainable mobility for all.

Specifically, the sustainable mobility It involves transforming our travel habits to promote alternatives to private vehicles and move towards an integrated, shared, digitalized, and emission-free public transport network. For this reason, Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy of the European Commission and the European Green Deal They mark the roadmap that Europe will follow in the coming years to ensure a cleaner and more efficient future transport through three pillars fundamentals: electrification, digitalization and connectivity.

EU targets for reducing emissions in transport

He  25 % of greenhouse gas emissions of the European Union are attributed to transport, being the second most important source only behind the energy sector. More than half of these emissions come from passenger cars. In Europe there is an average of 0.55 vehicles per person, according to Eurostat data for 2023.

The European Union, in its commitment to reduce net emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050, must reduce emissions associated with transport by 90% compared to 1990 levels. The legislative package Fit for 55” (Aim 55) sets out the framework for the decarbonisation of the European economy and includes measures to reduce emissions in transport:

  • Road transport: New passenger cars will have to reduce their emissions by 55% and the vans in a 50% by 2034, and all new vehicles will be zero-emission from 2035. Heavy-duty vehicles will have CO₂ reductions of 45% (2030), 65% (2035) and 90% (2040).

  • Railway: represents only 0,4% of total emissions, and is promoted as a clean and efficient means of transport, with improvements in infrastructure and capacity management.

  • Aviation and maritime: The EU promotes sustainable fuels through ReFuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime, with goals of 70 % of sustainable fuels by 2050 in aviation and reducing emissions on board by up to 80 % by 2050 in maritime transport.

Audax Renovables and sustainable mobility

In this context, Audax Renewables As an energy company, it plays an active role in supporting and contributing to the reduction of emissions associated with transport. The company promotes and invests in the generation of andenergy from renewable sources, through its parks wind farms  and solar panels, and makes it possible for households and businesses to contract renewable electricity. It also promotes self-consumption solutions and drives the installation of charging points for electric vehicles.

If you've made it this far, you'll already know that moving sustainably is a transformation that requires your help. Choose renewable energy for your car, your motorcycle, or your business, because the future of transportation isn't built on good intentions alone, but on truly renewable energy.
